Boholano returns US$17k to unknown owner
By Arlene Pesquira
Honesty begot honesty—and more blessings keeps on pouring for Iluminado “Nong Lumi” when he decided to return a cool $17,000 (The money’s peso equivalent is P800,000) which was placed in an envelop and left in his tricycle by an unsuspecting passenger.
Nong Lumi, 45, resident of Habitat Village in Bool District, Tgabilaran City is married to Laureana with two children, Mirasol and DonDon.
He was struggling financially because his wife was taken to a hospital the same day he found the money, and they had unpaid rent at Habitat village is 3-month overdue. The money might be a win-win solution. More, he could buy other things for his family. But for the tricycle driver who earns P300 a day and still paying for the renting of the tricycle, it was not as easy as that.
“Dapat akong iuli kay dili man to akoa..naa man toy tag-iya nga ilang ibalay,” Bok said. (The money is not mine, there is a rightful owner who will build a house)
Instead of keeping the money to himself, he lost no time in tracking down the owner and returned it pronto!
The money was left in his tricycle while a passenger boarded it from the city airport. He then dropped at the BQ Mall.
Two hours after he left the passenger at BQ, the honest driver noticed the envelope. He inspected what was inside it and saw a number of US dollar bills.
When he found out its worth, he headed for the Tagbilaran Police Station and turned it over to the policeman on duty.
At the police station, there was a woman who was able to identify its owner to be a seaman.
The police personnel asked Bok to stay, since they have already contacted the owner of the envelope who promised to give an incentive. The owner rewarded him with $32 — about seven times what a motorcycle taxi driver makes a day
Being in dire need of money to pay the hospital bills, Bok received it without any hesitation.
Bok had been driving a tricycle since 1979 and it was not the first time a passenger left a valuable item which he always found ways to return them to their owner.
Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim lauded Bok’s heroic deeds. The Mayor, as an act of gratitude has paid for the house rent. He will give one unit of tricycle to Bok. Moreover, Bok can avail the city’s blue card program for health care benefits.
Other private citizens also gave cash incentives acknowledging Bok’s honesty.
“When I learned about his heroic deeds, I know there is still hope for us. There are still honest people,” Mayor Lim said.
The Brother of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) in Bohol gave Bok an award acknowledging his honesty. He is a good example especially that the BCBP has an “Honesty is the Best Policy” campaign around Bohol.
Bok was featured on GMA 7’s toprating news program 24 Oras.

Hello… Welcome to Employment Crossing News… I’m Evangeline Fabia.
With a month left before the official school year begins, about 175 of Mississippi’s Jackson Public School’s 2,298 teaching positions remain available. District officials say that number should begin to fall since principals returned to work on Monday.
Cerissa Neal, director of teacher recruitment for JPS, said she expects most of the district's vacancies to be filled by the time school starts.
Mississippi has a teaching shortage because not many students graduate with a major in education and that most of the state’s teachers have an alternate route certification. Jackson Public School is considering to recruit college students who are graduating this summer.

Ron Paul is on something
I must echo these points and tell people to stfu
Dear Anti-Income GROUP NAME: "The tax honesty people are strangely reminiscent of fandom--of the comic book, fantasy, science fiction, role-playing-game variety. They have the same obsession with continuity and coherence within a created fantasy world of words. It's just that, in this case, that world of words isn't a multivolume fantasy epic or a long-running TV series--it's U.S. law. When these people try to reconcile the definition of income in this subsection of Title 26 of the U.S. Code with the definition in a 1918 Supreme Court case, it's like hearing an argument over the inconsistencies between a supervillain's origin as first presented in a 1965 issue of The Amazing Spider-Man and the explanation given in a 1981 edition of Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man."

China Pwns its population by any means necessary. I believe it may be the way other countries adapt to the growing problems of water shortages, and damage to water supply. I remember water samples from all over china, people used it for drinking water and it was various colours. I have talked to some strange people via message boards and one gent who claimed a colourful history of drug use described various coloured crap and I wonder what colour these people crap after they drink pink water.

In an unhealthy economy, the healthcare industry is forced to take care of its own.
With the consumer inflation rate at 4.1%, the medical inflation rate is at 4.5%, and healthcare spending was $2.3 trillion (that’s $7,600 per person), and is projected to reach $4.2 trillion in 2008. Practitioners have to move slower to raise rates, in efforts to avoid patients’ from cutting back on visits.
To make matters worse, as the public unemployment rate increases, the amount of uninsured patients unable to pay medical bills jumps too.
60% of companies offer health insurance to employees, down from 69% in 2000. That leaves 47 million Americans uninsured!
If there is any good news in the medical industry, it’s for workers in the medical field. As medical rates and costs go up, so will the demand for medical labor.
Hospitals and practices are reporting shortages of family and ER doctors, along with vacancies for nurses, internists, and allied health workers. And current workers are in positions to negotiate raises as well.
To sweeten the pot, in efforts to cut costs, hospitals, doctors, and dentists are looking to move to a 4 day work week with longer hours. Employees won’t have to fight high gas prices affecting their commute, get an extra day off, and employers can maintain salary costs.
So if you’re not feeling well, looking for work, or are feeling the gas price crunch, your doctor should have the prescription.

The Summer of 2008 is not looking good for teens on the job hunt.
Thanks to a sluggish economy and lack of demand, there are few jobs available to teenagers.
What work teenagers usually find for their summer breaks, is now being taken by college students, immigrant workers, and adults in need of extra income.
The U.S. teenage unemployment rate is at 18.7%, the highest since 2003. A Northeastern University study projects it will reach 34%, the highest since World War II.
Getting hit the hardest are teenagers in low income families, who lack the contacts that upper class households may have.
Cities such as L.A., Chicago, Boston, and Milwaukee are reporting an increase in teen crime and gang activity from their out of work demographic.
Reports from employers have led analysts to conclude 2 main problems from the shortage.
In the short term, teens’ lack of income hurts their pockets and further strains house hold incomes.
A long term issue is that teens will grow to adults that enter the work force with a lack of work skills, an established work ethic, and a sense of responsibility towards a job.
Many cities are looking towards Washington to offer aid, and fund their summer work programs.
Meanwhile America’s youth is looking for direction.
