So, I finally decided to record an improvisation on the piano. I've been improvising for over two years, and now I feel confident with posting something. I've played around with this melody for a few days and I think I'll incorporate it into my next movie as the theme/motif. Influences: Yoko Shimomura, Nobuo Uematsu, Philip Glass [after just watching "The Illusionist" and enjoying his score for the film] No, no sheet music available, don't ask (please?)

Music inspired by the comic "Inverloch" by Sarah Ellerton. [watered-down version of how I came up with this in case you haven't read Inverloch] This is a melody that I came up with in honor of the passing of a certain character. I hoped to capture the tone and feel of the moment with this composition... did I succeed? On another note, I'm not too sure if "martyr" is a fitting title for the said character, but it brings across the meaning. Sorta. I'm still alive! [t'was a triumph, great success...] I recorded this about a month ago - sorry, no video. I only had a microphone on me, and I'm still trying to find a video camera for recording. This improv turned out a bit more harmonious than I expected, so here you are. It's primarily an experiment; there are "mistakes," if you see misplaced harmonies and very intentional accidentals as such. When I improvise, I tend to imagine a scene, like for a film, then fit the music to the mood of the scene. Here I was imagining a storm, so hence the title. No sheet music! This is probably one of my all-time favorite pieces. If you have not seen the anime, please do so now; you have missed out on life until you've watched it. It is licensed in the US, so you should be able to get your hands on it. "Seijaku no Toki" means "Time of Silence" unless I am mistaken. T'was composed by the wonderful Anze Hijiri who composed about half of the soundtrack for Utawarerumono alongside Nakamura Miyu. I learned this piece by ear; there is no sheet music for it. Another improvisation, after listening endlessly to Final Fantasy songs. This one has slightly less oomph than the last one, but I still like it since it's cleaner. I finally decided to title my improvisations, starting with this one. "Quest for the Truth" somehow fit. I have no idea how to explain, it just fit. After listening to the recording, I noticed that I brought back the melody from previous songs and the motif from Fire and Ice (a student film for which I composed the soundtrack). I've always wanted to play this. Bounty Hunter was written for full orchestra; about 58 instruments. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was about 57 pieces short and had to compress Tallarico's beautiful composition into a piano solo. This is an arrangement by ear.
