A drive down, up and down some steep, green hills to the west of Bath in south west England. Look out for the orange bendybus just disappearing behind the big roundabout at the bottom of the last hill. And the speed camera (that little pale yellow box on a pole (looking like a birds nestbox) on the right hand side of the road on the approach to Saltford, towards the end of the vid. I believe this particular speed camera has the reputation of making more money in fines than practically any other speed camera in the UK. Our route is from about Whiteway, through Newton St Loe, and onto the A4 as far as Saltford. By the way, for any American viewers, notice how smoothly traffic can flow at a roundabout!

This is SPEEDED UP. The morning of Christmas Day and not much traffic. A drive to the beach at Branksome Dene Chine on the south coast of England to see the sand, the waves, and, at the very end, a distant view of Old Harry Rock. [Edited in iMovie on a Mac.]

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a tour of Smyrna's roundabout. ( Don't blink, you'll miss it. )
Driving in Bristol, England, on a November morning, 2007. From Midland Road, down Old Market, around the roundabout, into Bond Street, past the new 500 million pound Cabot Circus shopping mall, under construction, and up Stokes Croft. Under the railway bridge near Zetland Road, up Cranbrook Road with its heavily pollarded trees, right into Clare Avenue, left into Kings Drive, through the mini roundabout and up to the junction with Kellaway Avenue. This is at actual speed but I've edited out almost ten minutes of waiting at traffic lights.

So totally, totally different from driving in the US!
Don't miss the fun and games after I turn right, about two minutes in.

A brisk drive from Bristol city centre to the Downs. Starting in February rain, going on through spring and summer, and reaching the Downs with mist and autumn colours.
I’m back in England for another three weeks, so here’s the first video in my latest England series.
Results released in September 2007, from a nationwide United States study, indicate that “drivers waste nearly an entire work week each year sitting in traffic on the way to and from their jobs.” ( http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/18/traffic.congestion.ap/index.html )
That of course doesn’t include time wasted by people during the REST of their driving time. A LOT of that irrevocably wasted time out of your life is spent at TRAFFIC LIGHTS!
Therefore . . . I LOVE driving in England, because the English (and various other countries in Europe and Great Britain) make MINIMAL use of traffic lights, and WIDESPREAD use of ROUNDABOUTS, and the English drivers are PROS at the intricate “dance” that goes on at roundabouts.
Here is a video showin’ (in fast motion) how the drivers use their roundabouts!
The song is “Spinning Around” by Kylie Minogue.
