The first thing the US did when it invaded and took over Iraq was reverse Saddam Hussein's recently policy of demanding Euros in payment for his countries oil.
Some think that's what the war was all about and that Iran's insistence on receiving Euros for its oil is the real reason that country has been targeted.
Dollars? Euros? What's the difference?
The difference is this...if you are the dominant currency, you can support your lifestyle and war machine by printing more when you run out.
Take that power away and there will be a very economic painful dislocation in the US.

William Nessen, tells about the fighting between Aceh, a region in Indonesia fighting for independence, and the government forces of Indonesia.
On a more personal note: When I went to Indonesia in 2001,
christians and muslims were burning churches and mosques,
knowing virtually nothing about one another. Agitators,
government soldiers and various elements were dispersed but
still spreading violence in some of the thousands of islands
there.
The most serious issue I encountered was the rice. Indonesia
has the fourth largest population, and rice genetically
engineered in the US promised to yield twice as much in each
crop. That was true. The problem was that each grain had half
the nutrients of the indigenous variety and led to less
sustainable farming and more poverty.
There were few travellers there, and despite being recommended
against going -I still went. I couldn't get to East Timor at
the time, and severe fighting had broken out in Aceh to the
west. I visited many islands during the two months till my
visa expired and headed to further travelling.
I feel bad for leaving some fine people behind, but I had to.
