Working in the opposite of the national trend, the state of Texas has reported an incredible number, of 47,700 jobs, added for the month of June.
On a national level, the U.S. reported negative employment activity every month in 2008. Texas on the other hand, has boasted increases of 21,600 job additions over the first 4 months of the year.
As seasonal work helps to increase employment numbers, Texas has seen huge gains, like 10,700 professional and business jobs, along with 8,400 trade and transportation positions added in June alone.
Even the otherwise weak construction market, added 2,200 jobs for the month. Also, while fuel prices rise, so does demand for production, which benefits the job market in West Texas, who reported the lowest unemployment percentage in the Lone Star state.
Still, the Texas Workforce Commission, while happy with the numbers, is remaining grounded given the state of employment for the majority of America. TWC Chairman, Texas Workforce Commissionsays Texas is “cautiously optimistic” given June’s rate versus the rest of the country.
But people in Texas should be happy finding work and being productive. The 47,700 new jobs were the second largest monthly job gain for the state, since July of 2005.
