Getting to know me.

Shaykh Hamza Yusuf was born in Washington State in an orthodox Christian family and raised in Northern California. In 1977, he became Muslim and subsequently traveled to the Muslim world and studied for ten years in the U. A. E., Saudi Arabia, as well as North and West Africa. He received teaching licenses in various Islamic subjects from several well-known scholars in various countries. He also founded Zaytuna Institute which has established an international reputation for presenting a classical picture of Islam in the West and which is dedicated to the revival of traditional study methods and the sciences of Islam. Shaykh Hamza is the first American lecturer to teach in Morocco's prestigious and oldest University, the Karaouine in Fes. In addition, he has translated into modern English several classical Arabic traditional texts and poems. Shaykh Hamza currently resides in Northern California with his wife and five children. In this superb video clip from a lecture the Shaykh speaks on patience in Islam as taught by Prophet Muhammad(sas) .

Influenced by the great artist, Monica Sjoo, who as a lone voice in the years prior to 9/11 warned of the powerful patriarchal covert message and symbolism in the New Age beliefs, I wish to further explore about this in these post 9/11 times...

Neil is the director of the Hayden Planetarium in the Rose Center For Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History. To those that say that God does not exist. Here is modern day PROOF of God's infinite love and power through His Miracles! Praise the LORD! ;-)

The study of solar mythology (astrotheology) indicates that saviour myths, including that of Jesus Christ, had their origin in the heavens. Ancient people looked up at the heavens, noted patterns and regular movements of the sun, moon and stars. The height of the sun told them the time of day - the phases of the moon told them the time of the month - the position of the constellations in the night sky told them the time of the year - useful information if you want to know when to plant, when to harvest, when to hunt, when to feast, when to celebrate the re-birth of the sun in winter. They made up fables as a way of passing on their knowledge to future generations. After thousands of years, these fables lost their original meanings and instead came to be believed as true accounts of the lives of past and present supernatural beings/gods. This was encouraged by the growing priesthood. More time passed and these stories began to be incorporated into their religious beliefs - sun gods, moon goddesses etc. Stories circulated about some of these 'sun gods' making themselves visible on earth - these were the suns/sons of gods. With so many different opinions out there I am curious to find out what people believe about their God or the lack there of, but more importantly WHY they believe what they do. What led to that belief and what backs up what they think. I hope this will be a eye opening and fruitful conversation...
