White "DK" Beast (Me) vs. Wolf (lvl 9 CPU) -------------------------------- After the path is finished, the four come across a narrow bridge. Marth: "We're almost there. Everyone, cross this bridge... and be very quiet." Fox: "Huh? Why?" Marth: "Just do it!" Marth's yell caused something to roar. The roar was that of something dangerous. And from the low pitch, it sounded like it was a large creature. Marth: "No! Everyone, get back!" This time, everybody listens, and step back from the bridge. Suddenly, a white creature leaps onto the middle of the bridge, staring straight at the four. Despite its voice, it wasn't very large at all. Marth: "We... have to get through that thing somehow." Wolf: "You guys go on. I'll take this one myself." Fox: "Wolf..." Marth: "Very well, Wolf. Goodbye. You two, let's go." Wolf fires at the monster so that the other three can get through. The monster dodges the shot, while Marth and the others make their escape. Instead of giving chase, it turns towards Wolf, its eyes full of hate. Wolf: "Heh, you don't seem that tough." WITH MARTH, IKE, AND FOX... Marth: "You two DID say goodbye as well, correct?" Fox: "No. Ike didn't, either. Why are you asking?" Marth: "There is no doubt in my mind. You will not see Wolf again. He is dead, no matter what happens." Fox: "What? Are you sure? How strong is that thing?" Marth: "That thing... is not necessarily very powerful, nor is it fast. However, something is strange about it..." Fox: "What's that?" Marth: "No matter how many times you hit it, it just won't die. It just gets up again, again, and again. When I went to that island, I encountered it. No matter how many times I slashed and stabbed, it would not die. I had to retreat." Fox: "Well, we should help him, then!" Marth: "There's no point. It would just get all of us killed. Wolf gave us the biggest sacrifice of all... his life. Now, let's go." *Battle Begins*

Man, Meta Knight and Marth are both so slick, aren't they? The story in The Subspace Emissary unfolds with virtually no dialogue. Every so often you might hear a character yell out their trademark battle cry for a particular special move, but for the most part, things move along at a good clip unaided by voiced lines. (I used a similar technique in the Kirby animated series as well.) During the story, some characters are (or at least appear to be) familiar with some of the other personalities that appear along the way. However, there are several characters that will treat each other as complete strangers at first, just like Marth and Meta Knight did in the movie above. What spurred these two, who had formerly viewed each other as enemies, to band together? It's because they realize now that they are united against common enemies known as the Subspace Army. Now I know some will think, "Well, duh! Marth and Meta Knight would know that at a glance! Neither of them looks like a Primid!" But look at Wario and Bowser. Both of them are residents of "this world" and yet they are on the side of the Subspace Army. While members of the Subspace Army are easy enough to spot at a glance, figuring out who's an enemy and who's an ally is much harder with other characters. My advice is to remember that old saying: The enemy of my enemy is my friend. ...That said, there is one character who has a rather unusual method by which they can distinguish friend from foe... -Sakurai

Yeah... the difficulty is intense.

This will probably only make sense to those who are into video games, especially Super Smash Bros. and Sonic.
