The Second Annual LG National Texting Competition has come to a close, and LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. (LG Mobile Phones) has crowned another victor in their quest for fast and furious thumbs. On July 9, New York City was taken by whirlwind as the fastest texters from all over the country participated in a grueling battle of the thumbs for the second year in a row. Beating more than 15,000 entrants, Nathan Schwartz, a 20-year-old Clyde, Ohio resident, took home the title of $50,000 in prize money and indisputable bragging rights for his speed-texting skills. The winning phrase was "Does everybody here know the alphabet? Let's text. Here it goes… AbcDeFghiJKlmNoPQrStuvWXy & Z! Now I know my A-B-C's, next time won't you text with me?" which Schwartz completed in sixty seconds. On July 1, California and Washington will be the newest states to implement a law requiring drivers to use hands-free devices while behind the wheel to avoid being issued a ticket. In an effort to raise awareness about convenient hands-free options available to consumers which enable safer driving, LG Mobile Phones hosted an event titled "Red, White & Bluetooth" on June 19, 2008 at the Petersen Automotive Museum which is located at 6060 Wilshire Boulevard (at Fairfax Boulevard) in Los Angeles. A sliding phone, when closed the Chocolate just looks mysterious. It's dark, with a dark LCD screen, and just an LG logo and a silver OK button to give any clue about what to do with it. The hidden keypad is touch sensitive and glows red when in use. When opened, the full keypad is available. There are also buttons around the edge for volume control and multimedia - MP3, camera and video. The design works well and looks fantastic, although the touch-sensitive keys are quite sensitive and take a little getting used to.

Whereas the Chocolate was dark and mysterious, with its hidden touch sensitive keypad, the Shine positively sparkles with light and has a more conventional keypad. The reason for the name "Shine" is that the phone is highly reflective, having a shiny stainless steel body and a large LCD display that turns into a mirror when not in use.
