Please Read The Description First "Tourist Trophy Isle Of Man 2005" The 2005 Isle of Man TT Festival was the 98th run and took place between Saturday 28 May and Friday 10 June on the 37.73 mile (60.72 km) Mountain course. The first week (between 28 May and 3 June) is known as the practice week, before the real action was due to commence on 4 June. Bad weather meant that the Superbike race was held over until Sunday (5 June). There were only 7 races in this year because this was the first year the smaller 250 bikes & Production models did not race at the TT, instead they were replaced with Superbike, Supersport & Superstock races. The Sidecar TT Race A, was supposed to be race 2 but due to inclement weather forced the postponement of the Superbike TT for 24 hours, the Sidecars became the first race. The first week (between May 27 and June 2) is known as the practice week, before the real action commenced on the 3rd of June. There were 6 races in TT week. John McGuinness broke the lap record during practice for the Superbike race and then did it again in the race itself. He recorded a lap of 17:41.71, breaking the Superbike record from last year by 8.62 seconds and his outright lap record by 2.1 seconds. McGuinness then went on to take his first TT hat-trick by winning the Senior TT on June 9, destroying the lap record in the process. He set a lap of 17:39.95 from a standing start then 17:29.26 on his 2nd lap (breaking his own lap record by 10 seconds). However, the meeting was overshadowed by the death of Japanese rider Jun Maeda on June 6th due to injuries suffered in a practice crash. Its islands with their exceptional cliffs and sea stacs, form the most important seabird breeding station in north-west Europe. The evacuation of its native population in 1930 brought to a close an extraordinary story of survival. On 29th August 1930, the last 36 remaining inhabitants left St Kilda left forever after their traditional lifestyle was corrupted by the outside world. For centuries St Kildans had lived a self sufficient community lifestyle, scaling cliffs with their legendary long toes to catch sea birds. These people lived under their own form of democracy with a parliament meeting held every morning in the village street. They made shoes out of Gannets and considered boiled puffin with their porridge a great delicacy. Life was never easy, with hunger and hard work being commonplace. Developing a taste for earning and an easier life, the islanders were evacuated to various places, with the elderly left to survive on meagre charity handouts.. Many were disappointed with their promised Utopia and petitioned to be returned to their islands.
