It's a boy! Shirley had her calf a couple of nights ago. Proud Aunt Laverne has been very diligent about helping and keeping watch. We named the calf Squiggy. :)

During May, 2006 a massive arts festival took place in Edinburgh. Similar events occur throughout the world where cow sculptures are placed around a town or city. In Edinburgh, maps were provided for visitors to try and find them all. I tried this myself which was quite fun although when I took part, it was the last week so quite a few had been stolen which spoiled the hunt and I didn't find them all after trailing to each location, only to find that they are gone. I made a photo video to reserve my memory of this unique event in Edinburgh.

On November 30, 2004, The New York Times broke the story of what it called "grisly" animal abuse at the world's largest glatt kosher slaughterhouse, AgriProcessors Inc. The story, based on a disturbing undercover investigation, received wide coverage in the mainstream media and remains the biggest scandal in the kosher meat industry in recent memory. For many in the Jewish community, the seriousness of these abuses and kosher authorities' failure to denounce them have raised fundamental questions about the consumption of meat. This video takes on those questions. Narrator Jonathan Safran Foer is the author of Everything Is Illuminated, which won the National Jewish Book Award for Fiction and The Guardian's First Book Award and is the basis for a feature film starring Elijah Wood.
