Republic continued to improve the design as P-47Bs were produced, and although all P-47Bs had the sliding canopy and the new General Electric turbosupercharger regulator for the R-2800-21 engine, features such as all-metal control surfaces were not standard at first. A modification unique to the P-47B was the radio mast behind the cockpit that was slanted forward to maintain the originally designed antenna wire length in spite of the new sliding canopy.

The numbers for the Consumer Price Index are in for the month of June, and they aren’t good. With the biggest jump in 3 years, since Hurricane Katrina, the CPI rose 1.1% for the month. Ripple effects of high fuel prices (which increased 10.1% in June) have put an official strain on the U.S. Economy. The report outlines increases in key areas of the Economy including a 6.6% increase in energy costs, which in turn caused housing costs to go up .5%, a 4.5% spike in airfare, a .8% rise in food costs, and the retail market was listed at .3% jump. A slow economy and rising inflation have combined to put the U.S. Economy in a bind. Pressure is on the Fed to react to inflation by increasing interest rates, but unsteady financial markets provide a bad time to do it.
